Yes, I am a supporter of Nancy Rotering for Congress in the 10th District. Why?
Courage is rare in a politician; some would say it no longer exists. But Nancy Rotering proves that it does exist.
In 2013, as mayor of Highland Park, she led the charge in passing a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. This was not popular in all quarters, but she knew it was the right thing to do. By refusing to hear a challenge to this law, the Supreme Court has upheld its constitutionality.
Assault weapons are not used for hunting or self defense; they are only used for war and for mass murder.
After what this country has been through recently, a national ban on such weapons is the least we can do to reduce the threat of gun violence. But we know there is no chance of the current Congress tightening our gun laws – no matter how many people die. We have to change Congress by voting for candidates who believe in common sense regulations for gun purchases.
Nancy Rotering passed this law in Highland Park. She will fight to pass it in Congress.
