The Marian Theatre Guild is offering “The World Goes ‘Round” as a free-flowing hit parade of memorable music.
Promotional material from the guild promises “nonstop melody” celebrating life and the fighting spirit.
“They’re very catchy songs,” said Jayma Kay Emerson, who noted that she will be singing and doing a little dancing in the production at the Marian Theatre auditorium in Hammond.
Running Nov. 7 to 22 at 8:15 p.m. Saturdays and 3 p.m. Sundays, “The World Goes ‘Round” digs into the songbook of two Tony Award-winning titans of the Broadway stage.
Composer John Kander and lyricist Fred Ebb churned out tunes for standout shows such as “Cabaret,” “Chicago” and “Woman of the Year.”
Emerson said the Kander-Ebb works that will be performed by her troupe feature some “beautiful ballads.”

One of those lilting works is “Maybe This Time.”
Meanwhile, “Mister Cellophane” and the brassy “New York, New York” will be interwoven with other fare into an upbeat and passionate tapestry of sounds.
“One of the songs I’ll be doing is ‘All That Jazz’ from the musical ‘Chicago,'” said Emerson, who lives in the same community that her theater troupe calls home.
Established in 1928, the Marian Theatre Guild is presenting “The World Goes ‘Round” with the help of veteran cast members who have contributed to the company over the past 10 to 15 years.
With a set of musicians to dole out notes and chords, the guild is showcasing the formidable talents of Kander and Ebb, who won Tony Awards for their scores for “Cabaret” (1966), “Woman of the Year” (1981) and “Kiss of the Spider Woman” (1993).
Susan Bobos of Munster will lend her voice to a duet that serves up the “The Grass is Always Greener” from “Woman of the Year.”
Bobos said she also will be tap-dancing on roller skates.
“I love to dance,” she said.
Besides the roller skates, the show enlists banjos to fuel the variety.
Bobos is pleased to be a part of the presentation of “The World Goes ‘Round,” which infuses romance, humor and drama into the wave of songs. The song “But the World Goes ‘Round” from the 1977 film “New York, New York” spawned the title of the production.
“It’s a revue, actually,” Bobos said. “It’s great. Marian Theatre Guild always puts on spectacular productions.”
The guild has been a long-standing artistic force in the Robertsdale section of Hammond and adjoining Whiting.
A dinner-theater package is available for Saturday performances of its latest endeavor.
