Courtesy of a Chicago-area company, New York Mets and Kansas City Royals fans will be able to use Snapchat to encourage their fellow fans and taunt their foes with real-time score updates.

But on Tuesday night, they’ll be able to do so only from inside Kansas City’s Kauffman Stadium, site of Game 1 of the World Series.
Stats, a sports technology company based in Northbrook, has partnered with Snapchat to offer the score updates as filters — location-based visual overlays.
Snapchat users can access the score updates only at select venues for Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, the National Football Association and the National Hockey League, said Greg Kirkorsky, Stats’ executive vice president of sales and marketing. The feature is free.
Kirkorsky said Snapchat might eventually add filters with additional information such as player statistics.
“Dynamic Geofilters are a visual and timely way for sports fans to express the here and now of the game in their Snaps,” Ben Schwerin, Snapchat’s director of partnerships, said in a statement.
