Wheaton Police Chief Mark Field announced his retirement Friday, effective Nov. 7, officials said.

Field worked for the Wheaton Police Department in several capacities over 24 years, city officials said in a news release. He was appointed acting police chief in December 1995 and appointed police chief in March 1996, a position he held for the past 19 years.

“Chief Field’s leadership will be missed following his retirement, and we are fortunate that he will be leaving a department that is well-qualified and dedicated to providing police services to Wheaton residents,” City Manager Donald Rose said in the release.

An acting police chief has not yet been selected to replace Field once he retires, city officials said.
