A Sandwich gas station owner has been charged with soliciting someone to rob his business.

According to Sandwich police Chief Jim Bianchi, Pareshbhai Patel, 40, of the 1000 block of Cindy Lane in Sandwich, is facing two felony charges alleging he planned on hiring someone to rob his Shell Gas Station, 222 W. Church St.

Bianchi said that members of the Kendall County Cooperative Police Assistance Team, along with the DeKalb County state’s attorney’s office, assisted Sandwich police with the case.

Bianchi said a police informant wore a wire when speaking with Patel and caught him in the act of trying to put together his plan. He would not comment on Patel’s motive but said police are investigating his actions. The burglary was scheduled to occur last week.

Patel was charged with solicitation to commit armed robbery and solicitation to commit aggravated armed robbery.
