A 20-year-old Aurora man is facing a felony residential burglary charge after police said he stole several beers and a pack of cigarettes from the garage of a neighbor’s Aurora home.
Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said Edgar Reyes, 1400 block of Golden Oaks Parkway, allegedly entered a neighbor’s open garage around 4:30 a.m. and stole several beers from a refrigerator and a pack of cigarettes from a running vehicle parked inside.
When the vehicle’s owner entered the garage, Reyes left, Ferrelli said.
According to Ferrelli, an on-scene investigation pointed to Reyes. Around 7:10 a.m., officers received a call about a suspicious person in the area of the 1100 block of Scarlet Circle. The person was reported to have been smoking a cigarette and drinking a beer. That led police to Reyes’ home, and police were allowed to go inside, they said.
Officers said they spotted what appeared to be the stolen beer, Ferrelli said.
Ferrelli said as police interviewed Reyes he went to get something out of his dresser drawer and when he did, officers said they spotted drug paraphernalia inside.
Reyes was charged with felony residential burglary and possession of drug paraphernalia.
