Having lived in Highland Park for more than fifty years we have seen so many changes. But in the end Highland Park is still home, and, hopefully always will be to many of us.
Home for Werhane Mobil Gas Station was on the corner of Green Bay and Second Street in Highland Park for 50-plus years and did so much for our community. Lorenz (Lorrie) Werhane Sr. always had a smile to go along with the wonderful service he provided. His beautiful roses were always a promise that warmer weather was on the way. Soon new businesses will be located where Werhanes once stood. To honor Lorenz (Lorrie) Werhane Sr. sure would be nice if that corner could be called Werhanes Corner.
It is my hope that by submitting this letter we can get the ball rolling to preserve what was a long time establishment in Highland Park.
