Fair: Over the next five years, CLC will spend $163 million on campus improvements. To help local vendors become aware of the upcoming project opportunities, CLC will sponsor a Get Connected Vendor Fair from 9-11 a.m. Aug. 27 at 19351 W. Washington St., Grayslake. Because of construction, vendors should enter the B Wing and proceed to the lower level of the C Wing. At the event, vendors can network with the college’s architects, construction managers, facilities team and procurement staff and learn about the college’s projects planned for 2015-2017. The upcoming campus projects involve commodities, construction and professional services. Minority-, female- and veteran-owned businesses are encouraged to attend. To attend the fair, RSVP by Aug. 20 to [email protected]. Details, 847-543-2084.

Exhibit: Terry Dixon: Lines, Patterns and Images will be on display Aug. 21 to Oct. 4 at CLC’s Robert T. Wright Community Gallery of Art in Grayslake. Dixon, a CLC full-time art professor, juxtaposes photographic images with acrylic paint, oil pastels and ink, creating works that are in between traditional studio techniques and digital media. Dixon’s techniques create surfaces that take on different depths so the viewer’s eye is drawn to many angles. Dixon’s artwork covers societal and political issues, African art and culture, abstract expressionism and jazz and electronic music. Opening reception will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Aug. 28 and will include live music and refreshments. Details, 847-543-2040.

Auditions: Community members ages 15 to 40 are invited to audition for the CLC children’s theatre production of “The Stinky Cheese Man and Other Fairly Stupid Tales” at 6:30 p.m. on either Aug. 25 or 26 in the Studio Theatre of the James Lumber Center for the Performing Arts in Grayslake. Performances will take place Oct. 1-4. Actors should prepare a comic monologue about 90 seconds long. The play will be directed by Brian Gill, CLC theatre part-time faculty member. Gill strongly encourages people to audition on Aug. 25, so if needed, they can be called back on Aug. 26. There will be no additional call-backs later that week. Details, contact Brian Gill at [email protected].

Year of Light: CLC will recognize the International Year of Light at a CLC Open House and at several events at the Lake County High Schools Technology Campus this fall. Throughout 2015, the United Nations has been celebrating the International Year of Light and Light-Based Technologies to raise awareness of how optical technologies promote sustainable development and provide solutions to worldwide challenges in energy, education, communications, health and sustainability. CLC received a National Science Foundation grant to help develop an Associate in Applied Science degree and three certificates. It is the only community college in Illinois to offer training in this high-tech and field. CLC’s lab is equipped with a fiber laser and computer-controlled adaptive optics technology. Courses are also offered to high school students at Tech Campus through CLC’s Dual Credit program. The CLC Laser/Photonics/Optics program will offer four evening courses during Fall Semester, which begins Aug. 24. Students must meet math and language proficiencies to enroll in the introductory course, Fundamentals of Light and Lasers (LPO 111). In this open-entry blended course (face-to-face and online), students can begin the course any time during the first month of the semester and still complete it by Dec. 18. After taking LPO 111, students may enroll in subsequent courses and work toward a certificate or A.A.S. degree. Details, 847-543-2330.
