Antioch grad and College of Lake County pitching star David Meade joined the Kenosha Kingfish late this summer.

But the Illinois State University-bound pitcher still was a contributor as the Kingfish won the Northwoods League championship with a two-game sweep of the St. Cloud (Minn.) Rox in the best-of-three playoff finals.

Meade made six appearances with the Kingfish during the second half of the regular season, going 1-1 with 2.03 ERA. He made three starts.

His seventh appearance with the Kingfish came in relief last weekend when Kenosha clinched the title with an 8-1 victory in St. Cloud.

Kenosha won Game 1 6-4 and then dominated in Game 2 to win the title in the summer league for college all-star teams. This was Kenosha’s second year in the league.

In the decisive game, the Kingfish struck first in the second inning on Alex Dunlap’s sacrifice fly.

The Kingfish got four more runs in the fourth inning, many of which with the help of Rox defensive miscues, and the champs had add-on runs in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings.

E.J. Trapino started and threw five innings of one-run baseball. He allowed five hits and two walks while fanning six.

Meade threw the next three innings for the Kingfish, and picked up right where he left off a week earlier when he dominated the Rox through eight innings during a regular-season game.

After Meade’s three shutout innings, Ryan Orr pitched the ninth.

With the win, the Kingfish finished the summer with an overall record of 52-24.

Eight teams made the playoffs. The Kingfish and Rox each won two, one-game playoffs to advance to the finals.
