Police said an Aurora man who allegedly threatened grocery store employees with a weapon last week returned to the store on Sunday and was arrested.

According to Aurora police, Michael Staden, 21, 300 block of Superior Street, is facing multiple charges stemming from a Sunday incident at an Aurora supermarket in the 0-99 block of North Root Street.

On Sunday, police were called to the store by employees around 8:10 p.m. after they recognized Staden in line at the checkout counter.

Employees told police that Staden had previously been inside the store on Aug. 3 and had allegedly threatened employees with a weapon after employees told police he was caught taking a bottle of olive oil.

Staden was not charged in that incident, but it remains under investigation, Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli said.

When employees of the grocery store saw Staden return on Sunday, they quickly called police.

Police arrived on scene to find Staden walking out the door. He was confronted, patted down, and questioned by officers, Ferrelli said.

Police said Staden initially gave officers an incorrect name, but they were quickly able to identify him and learn there was a domestic battery warrant out for his arrest. When officers attempted to take Staden into custody, he allegedly began to struggle and push away. Ferrelli said Staden ran from police, who chased him through the parking lot.

One officer was able to get close enough to Staden to use a stun gun on him. He was quickly taken into custody once he was subdued, police said.

Paramedics checked Staden at the scene. He was charged with felony resisting arrest, felony battery to a peace officer, and misdemeanor obstruction of justice.
