Aurora police conducting undercover surveillance on a convicted child sexual predator secured charges against the man last week after finding him near a playground.

According to Aurora Police Department spokesman Dan Ferrelli, officers from the department’s Community Oriented Policing Unit were made aware that a man had been approaching children throughout several neighborhoods and that residents had become concerned.

Officers decided to set up surveillance on the man, Michael Reese, 56, 4000 block of Broadmoore Circle.

Because of his sex offender status, Reese is prohibited from being near schools or parks. Police said Reese broke that law on July 29 when they witnessed him riding through a parking lot of a playground in the 9S200 block of Route 59.

He was charged with felony-unlawful presence within a school zone by a child sex offender and a misdemeanor for being in or near a public park as a sex offender.
