A domestic dispute ended with a barricade situation and the confiscation of three weapons Wednesday evening at a home in unincorporated Aurora Township.

Kane County Sheriff’s Department Lt. Patrick Gengler said deputies were called to a home in the 700 block of Gary Avenue around 5:30 p.m. after it was reported that Eric Alexander, 29, was armed and threatening his adult sister. Alexander’s parents were also inside the home when the incident began.

According to Gengler, Alexander began threatening to beat his sister with a lead pipe and told her he would shoot her if she left the house.

Sheriff’s deputies, along with members of the Aurora Police Department, arrived on scene and met with the sister, who was able to safely get out of the home after her brother went downstairs to the basement. She told police she believed he had gone down there to retrieve a shotgun.

Gengler said that while Alexander was in the basement, his parents were also able to safely get out of the house.

Because Alexander was believed to be armed, the Kane County Regional SWAT team was called out to the scene. While they were waiting, Gengler said an Aurora officer who is a certified crisis negotiator made contact with Alexander, who he convinced to come out of the home.

It took about 20 minutes, but Alexander left the home on his own and was taken onto custody without incident prior to the arrival of the SWAT team. Both parents and the sister were uninjured in the incident.

Gengler said a lead pipe, shotgun and a .22-caliber handgun were seized from inside the home.

Alexander was charged with felony unlawful restraint, misdemeanor aggravated assault and two counts of misdemeanor disorderly conduct.
