Johnson died of heart disease, with heat stress a secondary cause, the office determined Wednesday following an investigation and an examination of her body.
Police were called to the building for a well-being check about 8:15 p.m. Tuesday and when they arrived, smelled a strong odor, said Officer Veejay Zala, a police spokesman. A Chicago Fire Department crew forced entry into the apartment and the woman was found dead, Zala said.
Johnson was pronounced dead at 8:39 p.m., according to the medical examiner’s office.
Two other people, women ages 69 and 70, died July 19 of heat-related causes.
