Aurora police are investigating the attempted abductions of two teenage girls that occurred on separate occasions this month in the same area of the city.
Police reported Tuesday that a 13-year-old girl was approached by a man about 11:30 a.m. July 2 near New York and Union streets. The man allegedly pulled alongside the girl in a older-model blue four-door vehicle and began to initiate a conversation.
Aurora police spokesman Dan Ferrelli said the girl ran to a nearby McDonald’s and sat near a family to escape the man. The man allegedly followed her into the restaurant but was apparently deterred when he saw the girl sitting with the group, police said.
Aurora police have released a surveillance photo of the suspect, who was described as a black man between 30 and 35 years old, about 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds.
On Wednesday, police reported a second alleged attempted abduction that occurred in the same area about two weeks later. Ferrelli said it is not known whether the two incidents are related.
Police released a composite sketch of the second suspect Wednesday based on the description of a man provided by a 15-year-old girl who said a man attempted to abduct her last month.
The girl told police that at 10:05 p.m. July 13, a man pulled up in a dark-colored vehicle in the area of Root and New York streets. After parking, the man got out of his vehicle and approached the teenage girl, Ferrelli said.
Ferrelli said the man tried to initiate a conversation with the girl and offered her a ride, but she ignored him. As she was walking away, the girl said the man grabbed her but let her go when she began to scream. The man ran to his vehicle, which was parked on East Park Place, and drove away.
Ferrelli said the girl described the suspect as a Hispanic man, between 20 and 25 years old. He was 5-foot-10, 180 pounds and wearing a black-and-brown T-shirt with a yellow reflective vest, similar to a construction vest, over the T-shirt. He also had on dirty blue jeans and tan work boots. She said his vehicle was a late model, possibly green, and was similar to a Honda Civic or Accord.
Anyone with information about the incidents is asked to call Aurora police at 630-256-5500 or Crime Stoppers at 630-892-1000.
