Two drivers from Lake County earned trips into victory lane last Saturday night at Wilmot Raceway.
One has been there so often, he can probably find it blindfolded. For the other, it was a new and thrilling experience.
Scott Kuxhouse of Antioch continued his domination in the modified division of racing at the one-third mile clay, paved oval, winning the feature for the third week in a row.
He was joined on the list of winners this time by Jim Scanlon of Zion, who answered when opportunity knocked and won the feature in the non-winged sprint division the first time he raced the car.

The first three weeks of racing, the non-winged feature was won by Todd Lehr of Genoa City, Wis. But this time, Lehr went out with a broken suspension on the first lap, throwing the 20-lap race up for grabs.
And Scanlon did the grabbing.
“I can’t believe I’m standing here,” Scanlon said in victory lane. “This car is a lot different to drive. I have to thank my crew and everyone who helped to get the car ready in the last 24 hours. I still can’t believe it.”
In the race, Doug Schenck of Cottage Grove, Wis., led until a yellow flag slowed the race with four laps to go. When the green came out, Schenck’s car lost power and Scanlon blew past for the win.
Meanwhile, Kuxhouse is leaving the modified field in the dust, as he has a second-place finish followed by three straight wins in his familiar No. 57 car.
“The track was tricky and the competition was really strong,” Kuxhouse said. “I still have to thank my son, Cameron, who keeps giving me his set-up secrets but he’s going to be out here racing again soon and then I don’t know if he’ll keep telling me.”
Kuxhouse took the lead for the first time with five laps remaining on a restart, powering past Steve Mueller of Eagle, Wis.
The other feature winners were Phillip Mock of Pleasant Prairie in the winged sprint division, Nick Petska of Spring Grove in the mini-sprint division, Rob Maule of Hebron in the street stock division, and Erich Grosch of Arlington Heights in the bandit four-cylinder division.
This Saturday, there will be five divisions of racing at the track, located on the Kenosha County Fairgrounds in Wilmot, Wis. Non-wings, mini-sprints, modified, street stocks and bandits all will be in action.
