Getting your Trinity Audio player ready...

There is no question Deerfield senior Noah Rosenblat is a better tennis player than he was a year ago, according to Deerfield coach Josh Leighton.

Rosenblat took third in singles at the Deerfield Sectional on his home courts, dropping a three-set match to Highland Park’s Jacob Edelchik in the semifinals Saturday, May 23. Rosenblat has lost both of his matches to the sophomore this spring.

But Leighton said the Colgate commit now is complete player and already owns more quality wins than he did at this stage last season. Rosenblat will be making his third consecutive appearance at the state tournament and second in a row at singles.

“His big serve is better, and his net game is better than it was,” Leighton said. “You separate yourself from the pack by being able to volley at the right time, and Noah can do that. He’s good at picking and choosing his moments.”

Deerfield’s doubles team of juniors Chris Casati and Niko Wasilewicz finished second at the sectional to earn their own state trip. They dropped a 6-1, 6-1 decision to the Glenbrook North team of seniors Miguel Perez and David Zakhodin in the finals.

On the strength of Rosenblat’s third and the doubles team of Casati and Wasilewicz, the host Warriors totaled 19 points to take third place. Glenbrook North won with 28 points and Highland Park was second with 23.
