Evanston boys track and field coach Don Michelin said his team still has room for improvement.
That’s saying something, considering the Wildkits won seven events at the Class 3A Loyola Sectional to finish first with 118 points on Thursday, May 21, in Wilmette.
Evanston’s highlights included wins in the 4×100-, 4×200- and 4×400-meter relays with season-best times. The Wildkits set Loyola stadium records in the 4×100 and 4×400. Evanston’s time of 41.94 seconds in the 4×100 was a program record.
“Great, great day,” Michelin said. “These guys really have been building to this all year, but we haven’t run our best I don’t think.”
Evanston senior Malachi Adams was a big winner. He was first in the 100 (10.95) and 200 (21.90) and ran on the 4×100 and 4×200 teams.
Deerfield senior Chris Douglas also won two individual events, finishing first in the 110 hurdles (14.29) and 300 hurdles (38.72).
Hersey followed Evanston in the team standings with 67 points. Deerfield (57), Niles North (55.33) and Maine South (50) rounded out the top five.

The photo caption misidentified the Evanston sprinters. Malachi Adams is in the middle and Reggie Murphy is on the right, not the other way around.
