A Sunday benefit has been scheduled for a Lake County Jail receptionist battling cancer.
The cookout for Amanda Groeller will be held from noon to 8 p.m. Sunday at Zion-Benton Moose Lodge 667, 41517 N. Sheridan Road in Zion.
There is a $10 donation per ticket, which includes food and music. Proceeds will help Groeller with hospital bills and other financial stresses.
Groeller was recently diagnosed with cancer for the second time, according to corrections officer Nancy Rivera, who is helping to organize the event. Rivera said that when Groeller was 17, she was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, went through extensive chemotherapy and had to have her left leg amputated.
She had been cancer free for seven years until just recently, when an X-ray of her lungs revealed a spot and doctors discovered a mass in her lungs. She is now undergoing chemotherapy again, but still is working.
