Pat Rossman of Wadsworth and Scott Kuxhouse of Antioch won feature races last weekend as Lake County drivers had a good night at Wilmot Speedway.

Rossman won the street stock feature, and Kuxhouse was first in the modified division of racing at the one-third mile, banked clay oval located on the Kenosha County Fairgrounds.

The other winners were Nick Daywalt of Hubertus, Wis. in the mini-sprints, Erik Grosch of Arlington Heights in the bandit 4-cylinder division, and Todd Lehr of Genoa City, Wis., in the non-winged sprint division.

Kuxhouse overtook Mike Simons of Genoa City on a restart following a lap 11 caution flag to win the 20-lap race. Simons, who won the opening-night feature a week earlier, had opened a sizable lead until the yellow flag flew for a minor incident, setting the stage for Kuxhouse’s move to the inside to take the top spot. Jimmy Morrison of Antioch came on to finish. Simons finished fourth.

“I knew Mike was strong and had a good motor, but I stuck to the inside and it worked,” Kuxhouse said of the winning move.

In the street stock race, defending champion Rob Maule of Hebron was back behind the wheel of No. 53, owned by the Tom Homan family of Antioch, after missing opening night while recovering from surgery. Maule appeared to be back in top form until he hit a slick spot coming out of a turn on lap 11 of the 20-lap street stock main, spinning while leading.

Rossmann took over the top spot and maintained it through a pair of late caution periods to score the victory. Ronnie Mink of Bristol, Wis., was second, Gerry Stollenwerk of Silver Lake, Wis., third, David Jones of North Chicago fourth and D.J. Hacker of Winthrop Harbor fifth.

“This is a great wedding anniversary gift for my wife, Kim,” Rossman said. “It feels super to get the win.”

In the mini-sprint race, Adam Schroeder of Zion had a mechanical failure while in front during the closing laps of the 20-lap feature. Schroeder’s misfortune proved to be good for Daywalt, who took over the top spot with less than five laps remaining and went on to the win. Schroeder had taken the lead from early pacesetter John Kirk of Johnsburg, whose mechanical woes caused him to spin while leading at the halfway point.

The traveling Interstate Racing Association Outlaw Sprint Car Series comes to the fairgrounds for the first time this season on Saturday. The non-winged sprints, mini-sprints and modifieds are on the card as well.

Grandstands open at 5 p.m. with racing scheduled for 6:45. Grandstand adult admission is $20 for this special event with youths age 7-11 $5 and ages 6- under admitted free.
