The digit: 2 years

That’s how long it took Chinese designer Guo Pei to create the extravagent golden confection that was Rihanna’s Met Gala robe, the singer told Vogue’s André Leon Talley on the red carpet, eonline.com reports. “It’s a miracle how it happened actually,” Rihanna said in the interview. “I saw this beautiful beast on the Internet. I was looking through, you know, researching Chinese couture…It’s handmade by one Chinese woman. It took two years to make this.” Dang. We hope that lady at least gets a shout-out in RiRi’s next album or something.

Well, bless her heart

In terms of Hollywood must-have accessories, lifestyle websites are totally the new Oscar. Following in the footsteps of fellow starlets like Gwyneth Paltrow and Blake Lively, Reese Witherspoon this week launched Draper James , a shopping site and blog with more than a dollop of Southern flavor, ew.com reports. “My grandparents taught me everything I know about gracious Southern living. From them I learned to dress and act like a lady, to take pride in my home, to reach out to help a neighbor, and to always invite everyone in for a visit,” Witherspoon posted on the site that sells curated home goods, clothes, accessories and gifts. Two things: 1) Is she going for a “Mad Men” reference in the name? 2)We’re still waiting on our invite for a visit, Reese.

You’re making us look bad

Welp, this is just precious: For Mother’s Day, Ashton Kutcher surprised his mom with a total basement renovation at the Iowa home where he grew up, People reports. The actor used his new baby with Mila Kunis, Wyatt Isabelle, as a ruse to get Mom out of the house for a few weeks (“They decided they needed me to stay out there for a little while to help,” his mom says in a video documenting the project) and worked with his stepdad and home site Houzz to upgrade the house in Homestead, Iowa. Mom was, understandably, thrilled. “Being able to do this for my mom it’s like a lifelong dream,” Kutcher said. “You know, you grow up and you have a good parent, and I don’t know that there’s anything I could ever do that really says thank you, but trying sure feels good.” Excuse us, we’ve got something in our eye…

Oh, the irony

Kim Kardashian’s new book, “Selfish,” features more than 400 selfies of the oh-so-humble reality star and yet fans who camped out to get their copies signed by the author weren’t allowed to join in the self-centered fun, Daily Mail reports. Selfies were apparently banned at an event at a New York Barnes & Noble on Tuesday.

The quote

“There’s [a film I’m considering] now where I have to wait for all the male roles to be cast before I can even become a part of the conversation. Part of me gets that. Part of me is like, ‘What the f–k? You have to cast for females based on who’s cast as males?’ ” —Anna Kendrick to Glamour on gender bias in Hollywood.
