An Aurora man on Monday was charged with driving drunk after he was involved in an Aurora traffic crash.

Police reports indicate that Mario Lechuga, 59, 1300 block of Monomoy Street, was involved in a minor traffic crash at 8:10 p.m. on the block in which he lives.

A witness flagged down officers to report the crash, but by the time officers arrived Lechuga had left the scene, police said.

Police located Lechuga in the 700 block of North Gladstone Avenue where he was spotted getting out of his vehicle. Officers said that Lechuga smelled of alcohol and administered field sobriety tests.

Lechuga was charged with two counts of felony drunken driving, felony driving on a suspended license, no insurance, leaving the scene of a crash, illegal transportation of alcohol and improper backing. Police said Lechuga also has four prior convictions for driving on a license that had been suspended because of drunken driving.
