Hot date: May 8

It was a Beautiful Day for at least a few New York commuters Monday. They probably don’t need the spare change but U2 was spotted playing on a New York City subway platform Monday, ew.com reports. The band sang “Angel of Harlem” for a crowd of passersby near the 42nd Street S shuttle at Grand Central Station and Jimmy Fallon was there to record the show for an episode of “The Tonight Show” airing May 8.

The digit: 101

That’s how old actress Ellen Albertini Dow was when she died Monday, Variety reports. Dow was a longtime dance and acting coach, and appeared in numerous TV shows and movies over the years including “Sister Act,” “Wedding Crashers” and “Seinfeld,” but is perhaps best known for her role as the little old granny who paid Adam Sandler in meatballs and slayed “Rapper’s Delight” in “The Wedding Singer.”

The quote

“Some of it was a little off, but in the arena it killed,” —Jamie Foxx, playing the “technical difficulties” card on Ellen regarding his much-maligned performance of the “Star Spangled Banner” during last weekend’s Mayweather vs. Pacquiao boxing match, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Justin gets juicy

In what may be the greatest tequila-related performance since “Pee Wee’s Big Adventure,” Justin Timberlake took on the role of a lifetime recently playing—wait for it—a lime. No, like an actual piece of fruit. If you haven’t seen it (and we recommend you remedy that immediately), the gig was for a spot promoting the performer’s Sauza 901 tequila company, People reports, and JT plays Rick “Sour” Vane, a cocktail lime reliving his glory days. As soon as the Academy adds an award for Best Citrus Fruit in a Leading Role, Timberlake’s got our vote.

A win for a ‘Loser’

Do Jillian Michaels’ friends and family members get the same boot-camp treatment the “Biggest Loser” trainer dishes out on TV? We’ll find out next year, ew.com reports. E! has greenlit “Just Jillian,” a docu-series that “explores the world of the fitness guru beyond what fans have seen onscreen.” OK, because if her personal life is anything like those Last Chance Workouts, breakfast at the Michaels’ house must be INTENSE.
