Foxy Mae, a dog adopted from Anderson Animal Shelter in South Elgin in June 2014, has been named the winner of the shelter’s first Pets-a-Palooza Spokespet Contest.

“There were approximately 20 entries and six finalists,” said Holly Alcala, the shelter’s director of development. “We were looking for an outgoing pet adopted from Anderson who is friendly to both people and other animals and who loves being in the spotlight. We had wonderful stories and photos submitted by a number of our adoptive families. Our committee had a tough job in narrowing down the choices.”

Although Foxy Mae’s exact breed or mix is unknown, her owners said she resembles a North American Dingo.

As Spokespet, Foxy Mae will attend media events and lead the Pets-a-Palooza parade and festival on Sunday, Sept. 20, at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles.

“Pets-a-Palooza is a celebration of pets,” said Beth Drake, the shelter’s executive director. “We’re very excited about our inaugural parade and festival. We hope that our community comes out to take part in the celebration.”

In addition to Foxy Mae, the dogs who were chosen as Pets-a-Palooza contest finalists were: AJ, Annie, Blue, Cade, and Penny.

Foxy Mae’s owners describe their dog as “a fun-loving, people-loving, dog-loving, cat-loving, and run-loving Anderson success story. She is our fitness trainer, our playmate and our cuddle buddy. She is also our psychiatrist because she can change our moods for the better.”
