The Central Community Unit School District 301 board said farewell to two longtime school board members this week.
Gary Weigand has been on the board since 2003. Rose Diaz, who once served as school board president, has been on the board since 2007.
During the recent election, incumbents Laura Rabe, current school board president, and Jeff Gorman kept their board seats. New faces on the board will be Mitchell Penar and Janet Marlovits.
Diaz and Weigand were both presented with clocks during their last night on the board.
“I enjoyed my time on the board,” Weigand said. “It’s been a privilege.”
“I’ve learned more about education and leadership,” Diaz said. “It has opened my eyes to what everyone does in the district.”
“The board members represent the taxpayers of the district,” said Superintendent Todd Stirn. “It is not a paid position. It’s a big commitment. Both of you have left your mark on the district. I’ve appreciated your time on the board.”
