GARY—Police arrested a Gary husband and wife late Wednesday night after neighbors reported them fighting.

Patrolmen Louis Hudson and Gerald Richardson responded to reports of a man and woman fighting about 9:35 p.m. in the 200 block of Harrison Street, police said.

Bridgette Harmon, 38, was at her neighbor’s home and told police her estranged husband, Marlon Sanders, 39, had kicked in the door to her home and started beating her. She said they were arguing about his use of her car, Lt. Thomas Pawlak said.

Harmon said she was punched and bitten, then went to the kitchen and used a butcher knife to stab Sanders about three times. Sanders was gone when officers arrived, Pawlak said.

Patrolman John Street located Sanders later near 25th Avenue and Clark Road. Sanders was treated at the hospital and released to the Lake County Jail. Harmon, too, is in Lake County Jail. Both face charges of battery, Pawlak said.

Detective Cpl. James Nielsen is investigating the incident.
