An arrest warrant has been issued for a Gary man charged with three counts of armed robbery and one count battery for a March incident near U.S. Steelyard.
David D. Morris, 21, also known as David Valley, will be held on $90,000 bail when he is arrested, court records show.
Three men were robbed at gunpoint March 16 when the driver of a car and his cousin went to 5th Avenue and Virginia Street about 5:30 p.m to pick up a friend. After the third man was in the car, Morris walked up and spoke to the driver, who he knew from school, the probable cause affidavit states.
The victim told Sgt. William Fazekas that Morris asked the driver to use his phone and the driver said no.
“He then told (the victim) to give him his phone or he would blow his head off, at which point he pulled out what appeared to be a sawed off shotgun,” the affidavit states. Morris struck the driver in the head with the shotgun, then five other men ran up to the car and began taking personal items from all three occupants of the car, including cash, gym shoes, a phone and jewelry, according to the court document.
During the investigation, Fazekas located a Facebook page for David Valley, and one of the victims identified Valley as the man who robbed him, according to the court document. In a photo on Valley’s Facebook page, Valley is wearing the victim’s stolen shoes, the affidavit states.
