A Gary man is charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery and battery by means of a deadly weapon in a shooting Friday, police said Wednesday.
Andre T. Scott, 29, allegedly fired at Jerome Curtis, 44, as Curtis was distributing campaign material for city council candidate Ragen Hatcher in the 1300 block of Roosevelt Street. Curtis was shot in the arm, then the bullet traveled through his chest and lodged in his throat, the probable cause affidavit states.
Curtis told Sgt. Dan Callahan he had placed a sign in the yard on that block and was returning to his car when he saw a green car stop beside him and saw Scott point a gun at him and shoot. Curtis told police he has known Scott for many years and “believes that Andre shot at him because of a violent dispute between his nephew and a relative of Andre,” the affidavit states.
