Dominant pitching from Hinsdale Central’s Courtney Berlin and Rob Dandorph trumped Hinsdale South’s hitting Friday night in the annual duel between District 86 softball and baseball teams.
The Red Devils swept the Hornets in both mercy-rule shortened games at Benedictine. Central softball won 16-3 in five innings, while the Red Devils baseball team prevailed 13-3 in six innings.
Both Hinsdale Central junior right-handers continued their winning ways.
Dandorph (2-0) gave up seven hits and struck out eight batters, getting support from Chris Botsoe (3-for-4), who had had two doubles, a triple and three RBI. Michael Johnson hit a home run and drove in five runs for Hinsdale Central (4-4).

The Hornets (3-5) dropped their fourth decision in five games.
“I know a few of their guys,” Dandorph said. “It’s fun playing them. It’s always fun to play a rival.”
In the softball game, Berlin retired the first seven Hornets batters and did not allow a hit through three innings.
Hinsdale Central (4-2) collected triples from Annie Bruns, Emma Day, Riley Burr and AnneMarie Tracey. The Devils scored seven runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to break the contest open.
“It’s nice returning and working with (catcher) Faith Koffron,” Berlin said. “We are stronger on defense each year and I can rely on my hitters to put the ball in play and then let the defense work behind me.”
Sarah Hanson was the first Hornets player to get, singling in the fourth inning. Hinsdale South (1-11) scored one run in the fourth and two in the fifth, boosted by Holli Jones’ RBI triple.
