A 22-year-old Gary man was shot and killed early Friday less than two blocks from his home, police said.
Johnnie Dixon III was found dead outside an apartment in the St. John Homes complex about 1:20 a.m., Cmdr. Del Stout said.
Cpl. Damon Bradshaw and Patrolman Deawn Kimble were the first to arrive after a resident of the 2200 block of Carolina Street told police she heard “18 to 20 gunshots,” the police report said.
The woman said after the shooting stopped, she looked outside and saw a man on the ground with his arms in the air. She saw his arms drop to his side and realized he wasn’t moving, the police report states. She called police, who found Dixon’s body.
Detective Alexander Jones is investigating the homicide, the 10th of the year in Gary. Anyone with information can call him at 881-7477.
