Three incumbents appeared to have held their seats in a five-way race for three openings on the Grayslake Village Board.
Incumbents Kevin Waldenstrom, Elizabeth Davies and Ron Jarvis looked to have successfully defended their seats against newcomer candidates Quin O’Brien and Mary Klees after all precincts had reported.
With 19 of 19 precincts reported, Davies had netted 27.52 percent of the vote, Waldenstrom had received 23.64 percent, Jarvis had 21.38 percent, Klees was close behind with 19.68 percent and O’Brien had 8.04 percent.
Those totals did not include early voting, vote by mail, late-arriving and provisional ballots.
The Grayslake Village Board was in session Tuesday night and attempts to reach the trustees prior to deadline were unsuccessful.
Davies, who was appointed to her seat in December when former trustee Jeff Werful was sworn in as a member of the Lake County Board, ended up leading the pack.
She said during the campaign that the biggest issue the new board will face will be the state cuts to village funding instituted by Governor Bruce Rauner.
Davies said she hopes that new development in the village’s Central Range area in the Route 83/Peterson Road corridor as well as the old County Fairgrounds site will help offset losses due to the state cuts.
“We’re really looking to bring business to town to help the schools,” she said.
Davies said that to advance those goals, the Grayslake Business Partners, a joint public-private venture, has already identified “a good number” of potential businesses.
