Anderson Animal Shelter, 1000 South LaFox Road in South Elgin, has announced that it is holding a contest to find its 2015 Spokespet.
“This is the first time that we are running this contest,” said Beth Drake, shelter director.
According to the shelter, they are looking for a cute, friendly and outgoing pet who enjoys being in the limelight.
All contestants must have been adopted from the shelter. In addition to cats and dogs, the shelter houses “Little Critters” for adoption such as rabbits, mice, rats, birds and hedgehogs.
Spokespet contestants must be friendly with people and other pets and available for media events such as the shelter’s Pets-a-Palooza event on Sunday, Sept. 20, at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles.
“Pets-a-Palooza is a free event open to families with their pets,” Drake said. “There will be a pet parade, demonstrations, entertainment, and pet-related items and food for sale. We expect attendance of around 1,000 people. We ask people to check our website as it gets closer to the event.”
To enter the contest, submit a photograph of your pet along with a short essay on why you think your pet should become the Spokespet to Drake at: [email protected].
Entries will be accepted until Friday, April 10. The winner will be chosen from among the top five finalists through popular vote on the shelter’s website during the week of April 20.
