A Grayslake man facing up to life in prison on child sex charges is scheduled for trial May 26, but his attorney said Wednesday he hopes to work out a plea deal before then.

Langsee Sengsavang, 51, is charged with 18 counts of predatory criminal sexual assault involving a victim under the age of 13, a Class X felony with a sentencing range of six to 60 years in prison.

Because the charges are Class X, if he were to be found guilty of more than one count at trial, sentences for each conviction would be served consecutively.

Sengsavang pleaded not guilty after being indicted last September by a Lake County Grand Jury. According to the indictment records, the alleged incidents involved a girl in 2012.

A hearing scheduled Monday was moved to April 29 before Judge James Booras, because defense attorney Jed Stone was involved with a separate case earlier this week.

Stone said Wednesday that he has approached the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office about a possible plea deal in the case.

“I always want to resolve cases before going to trial, especially when children are involved,” Stone said.

Assistant State’s Attorney John Brown acknowledged that Stone has initiated discussions about a guilty plea.

Both attorneys declined to discuss details of a potential resolution.
