A teen was one of two victims wounded in separate weekend shootings, police said Monday.
The teen, Eric Duncan, 15, was shot in the thigh as he walked into the gas station at 15th Avenue and Grant Street about 12:20 a.m. Saturday, Sgt. Thomas Decanter said.
Thomas Paulding, 30, was shot several times, including a through-and-through wound in his head, as he returned from a walk to the gas station at 35th Avenue and Broadway on Friday night, police said.
Paulding was flown to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill., from the Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus emergency room, Decanter said.
No one is in custody in either case.
Duncan’s father told police he drove his son to buy potato chips at the gas station about midnight. He said he parked his car near the gas pumps outside the front door, and as his son walked toward the business, he heard shots. He drove his son to the emergency room for treatment. Sgt. William Fazekas is investigating the shooting.
Earlier Friday night, Paulding’s mother called for help after hearing gunshots and looking outside her apartment in the 100 block of West 35th Avenue and seeing her son lying on the ground. She told police her son had walked to the gas station on Broadway just minutes earlier.
When Patrolman Anthrice Culp arrived, he found Paulding lying in a fetal position at the top of the stairs leading to a basement apartment. Paulding had been shot in the head, stomach, buttocks and arm, the police report states.
Paulding was unconscious but breathing when he arrived at the hospital. He was in critical condition when he was flown to the Illinois hospital, police said.
Detectives Cpl. Edward Gonzalez and James Bond are investigating the shooting. Anyone with information can call Gonzalez at 881-4750 or Bond at 881-4751.
