GARY—A third suspect has been charged in a February 2014 shooting at a vacant Midtown house where the victim had gone to buy a handgun, police said.
Deontre S. Borders, 18, is charged with attempted murder, robbery, aggravated assault and battery. He joins Arnell Davis Jr., 20, and Tre McDuffie, 21, who were charged last year in the same incident. All three are from Gary.
Davis is scheduled to appear April 10 in Lake Superior Court to change his plea on charges in the shooting of Richard Hawkins, 21.
Police found Hawkins, who had been shot multiple times, collapsed on the 25th Avenue near Madison Street. Sgt. Michael Barnes learned Hawkins had agreed to meet Davis at Davis’ former home, but when he arrived at the vacant house, two men robbed him. Hawkins ran from the scene and was shot several times.
