GARY—The father of a Miller woman’s two children is sought by police in the brutal stabbing of the woman Thursday morning as she sent their children off to school, police said.

The 32-year-old woman had just watched her daughter get on the bus near Montgomery Street and Ash Avenue about 6:30 a.m. when she was confronted by a 33-year-old Westville man with a knife. She later told Cpl. Jeff Hornyak that the father of her children was at the bus stop and after her daughter left, he pulled her from her car and started beating her and stabbing her.

She told Hornyak she broke away and got back in the car, but the man kept stabbing her until she could drive away, the police report states.

Police estimate the woman was cut more than a dozen times on her face, arms, head and hands. She was taken to the Methodist Hospitals Northlake campus for treatment.

The victim was able to return home in the 7000 block of East 1st Avenue, where she drove her rental car into the yard, then beat on the front door for her mother to open.

The victim’s mother told Detective Lorenzo Davis she had rented the 2014 Nissan Altima for her daughter to use this weekend while celebrating her Sunday birthday with friends.

The car was towed to be processed for evidence.

Davis said anyone who witnessed the attack can call him at 881-4738.
