An East Chicago man was seriously wounded early Wednesday after he was shot multiple times during a confrontation with a strip club security guard, authorities said.

As police processed evidence outside Too Much Temptation, 6900 E. U.S. 20 in Miller, a 26-year-old Gary man returned to the scene, stepped out of his car and held his hands in the air, police said.

The man told police he worked as a security guard there and that he shot a 20-year-old patron from East Chicago in self defense when the patron tried to run him over with his car, police said.

Patrolman Justin Hedrick took the man’s handgun from his waistband and noted in the police report that the magazine contained no bullets. He was arrested at the scene.

Police and medics were alerted about 3:30 a.m. when the 20-year-old began pounding on the door at McDonald’s at U.S. 20 and Lake Street, about a mile west of the strip club. Employees unlocked the door , and the man collapsed on the floor. According to the police report, he said he had been at Too Much Temptation earlier, then left. But when he tried to return, the guard shot him.

Medics took the wounded man to the Methodist Hospital’s Northlake campus where he was admitted with gunshot wounds to his arm, stomach, both thighs and buttocks, the police report states.

Sgt. William Fazekas is investigating the shooting.
