We finally know the details about the Apple Watch, and of course I’m particularly excited about it from a social media standpoint.

You certainly don’t need to buy an Apple Watch to improve your social media use, but it certainly can’t hurt. In a future So Social, I’ll take a deeper dive into what each social media platform has planned. For now, here are my thoughts as I jotted them down during the live stream.
Talking into a watch really does make you cool. Those of you who remember Knight Rider back in the ’80s or Dick Tracy years before know what I’m talking about.
Talking into a watch to update your status might be cool … then again … Am I the only one who pictures two people on a date at a restaurant talking separately into their Apple Watches to update their Facebook statuses? If the analysts are correct and Apple really does sell 10 million Apple Watches this year, talking into your wrist will go from trendy to headache-inducing in no time.
Twitter on an Apple Watch just fits. Apple’s Apple Watch app page shows quick examples of how some apps will work. Twitter could be a winner. Nothing drives me crazier than having to unlock my phone to tweet while on the go, but with the Apple Watch I’ll be able to manage my feed and be notified with a tap when something happens that I need to know about. And you can use dictation to speak into your Apple Watch and compose a tweet.
Hey Siri, set a reminder so I don’t forget to tweet. Maybe not exactly what Apple had in mind when talking about setting important reminders on your Apple Watch, but why not a reminder to Tweet every hour or every day or whatever fits your needs?
The flow seems perfect for people with active lifestyles. Picture it: Your Apple Watch gently taps you on the wrist to alert you that your favorite baseball team is about to play the bottom of the 16th inning. You then use dictation to speak your detailed tweet or Facebook update into your watch. And you didn’t have to take your phone out of your pocket.
Instagram will be awesome even without a camera. During the watch unveiling Monday, Apple showed how Instagram will work. While there’s no camera in the watch, you’ll be able to interact with your friends, scroll through your feed and like and comment on photos. And you’ll be able to use your Apple Watch to control the composition of your iPhone photos. More on that below.
A $17,000, 18K gold selfie stick. It’s true. Every Apple Watch from $349 on up will allow you to use a remote camera feature to line up your shot, set the timer or take the photo on your iPhone. But if you choose the most expensive Apple Watch, at $17,000 you’d be wearing what’s arguably the most expensive selfie stick. I foresee this being the choice of a lot of celebrities and Kim Kardashian.
Full disclosure: I’m preordering my Apple Watch the minute sales begin, and I’ll be tweeting about my experience from my iPhone until that baby is wrapped around my wrist. I’ll be the guy in the leather jacket who looks like Michael Knight.
