The annual faculty basketball game for District 212 was almost perfect, said Athletic Director Tim Murphy.

Faculty at East Leyden High School won the game on Feb. 26 by a score of 41 to 30.

“It was awesome except the wrong campus won,” joked Murphy, who incidentally played on the West Leyden faculty team.

This year the event raised $3,157. About $1,000 came from student 3-on-3 basketball tournaments before the faculty game. The money will go to the family of Cisco Arocha, a sophomore who died last year, for medical expenses.

“When he passed away, a bunch of kids went to [principal] Wagner’s,” Murphy said. “They wanted to do something.”

About 145 students took part in the tournament.
