Franklin Park police say they found more than a pound of marijuana when they pulled a car over on Valentine’s Day.

Ralph Tan, 25, of 3117 Sarah Street was charged with unlawful possession of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver.

About 11 p.m. on Feb. 14, tactical police officers said they spotted a vehicle driving north on Scott Street that didn’t signal when making a turn onto Belmont Avenue. They pulled the vehicle over.

“One of the tact officers approached the car and smelled what he thought was burnt cannabis,” said Cmdr. Mike Konwinski.

The officer asked the Tan to step out of the vehicle and asked if he had anything on his person. According to Konwinski, Tan said he had cocaine. They found 1.2 grams on him, he said.

Police say they then searched the vehicle Tan was driving and found a large freezer bag with 500 grams of marijuana — a bit over a pound.

Tan’s last court date was Feb. 16.
