The dances in Orchesis, the annual dance showcase at Leyden High Schools, were very story-based this year, said Stephanie Zeppetello, director.
“There are scenes like the dark side of the fashion industry,” said Zeppetello. “When people realize time is ticking away. The most intense is one on the concept of cannibalism, like in nature.”
Students started preparing at the end of November for the annual dance showcase, although they only had half their normal on-stage rehearsals due to the schedules of other events. The 38 students take on a wide range of dance styles including African, Bollywood, Latin Ballroom, classical ballet, modern, jazz, hip-hop and bachata.
“The variety this year is extreme,” Zeppetello said.
Performances took place at East Leyden on Jan. 30 and 31.
