About 15 people were displaced from their homes after a fire broke out in an apartment complex in suburban Chicago Ridge.

About 10:30 p.m. Monday, firefighters were called to an 18-unit apartment building in the 9800 block of Sayre Avenue in the southwest suburb, Chicago Ridge fire Chief George Sheets said.

Firefighters arrived to find “heavy fire” in the second story of the building, Sheets said. Firefighters elevated the fire to a two-alarm because of the wintery conditions, the chief said.

The blaze was put out, and no injuries were reported. Sheets said 10 to 15 people were displaced after the fire heavily damaged about six units in the building.

As of early Tuesday, the cause of the blaze was unknown.
