St. Celestine School’s gym was filled with music recently as the school’s band performed its Christmas band concert.

The 32-piece band made up of students from the fourth through eighth grade performed Dec. 19 during the day for the students and later that evening for parents, family and friends in the school’s gym. Larry Dybis, the school’s band director, led the group through numerous musical selections.

“It was wonderful,” he said. “The parents were great and the kids were great.”

He said the band has been practicing for the concert since October and he could see that band members were nervous prior to performing.

“There’s always a few butterflies,” he said.

But he said the day’s earlier performance in front of the student body built up their confidence for the evening performance. He said about 100 people came out to their evening performance.

“It’s a more loving atmosphere there with their family and supporters there,” he said.

Dybis said the performance was a mix of traditional Christmas holiday classics and other songs as well.

“It was a Christmas concert, but not every song was a Christmas number,” he said.

He said that the band did a good job and was happy with how they performed.
