Two new police officers are patrolling the streets of Elmwood Park after recently graduating from the police academy.

Elmwood Park Police Chief Frank Fagiano and Deputy Chief Andrew Hock were at the Cook County Sheriff’s Police Academy’s graduation ceremony in December to great their two new graduates, Joseph Borrini and Kevin Forrest.

The two had been auxiliary police officers in the department for several years. Now, after completing training in the police academy, they’re full-time police officers.

Fagiano said the two officers’ addition to the police department brings the department’s manpower back to regular manpower.

“It’s all positive,” he said.

Now for the next 60 days, Borrini and Forrest will go through the Elmwood Park Police Department’s Field Training Program, where they’ll work with a field training police officer. Fagiano will get weekly reports about how the two are doing.

Once they successfully complete the 60-day training program, the officers will then be able to patrol the streets on their own.

Fagiano believes the new officers will be good additions to the police department for many years to come.

“They live in the community,” he said. “I believe both of them will do well.”
