The girl was sitting in the front seat of a Pontiac Grand Prix when shots were fired at the car around 5:30 p.m. Wednesday on West 15th Avenue, according to Gary Police Cmdr. Del Stout.
The girl was hit in the neck, and the driver continued west on 15th Avenue until he crossed Cline Avenue into Hammond, where he stopped at a McDonald’s parking lot and called for help, police said.

Three young men, all from Indiana, were also in the car and were being questioned, Stout said.
