For the 22nd year, the Plainfield High School-Central Campus Parent Teacher Student Organization is seeking monetary donations for needy families in Plainfield School District 202 community.
All donations received will be used to provide Christmas dinner and buy gifts for needy District 202 families, according to a release announcing this year’s effort.
Last year’s effort helped more than 30 families in the district’s community, according to the organization.
“Even though the economy is slowly improving, there are still a lot of needy families in our area,” Christmas drive coordinator Linda Hanley said in the release. “We want to do everything we can to help as many people as possible.”

The organization identifies families in need via school staff and social workers in the district, according to the organization.
Families who believe they are eligible should contact their school’s social workers.
“Each family’s wish list is assigned a number to ensure the identities of the families remain strictly confidential,” according to the organization.
The organization works with local businesses, school organizations and citizens to purchase gifts and dinner items for families.
The organization does not limit its works to the holiday season. District 202 parent and school groups are asked to adopt a family, give a monetary donation or hold a canned food drive for needy families throughout the year.
Organizations that have pledged their support this year include the C.W. Avery Family YMCA, Abri Credit Union, Followers of Christ Lutheran Church and the Plainfield High School-Central Campus student council.
Needy families will receive the food and gifts that have been collected or purchased one or two weekends before Christmas, according to the organization.
Donations can be made payable to the PTSO Needy Family Drive and mailed to Plainfield High School-Central Campus, 24120 West Fort Beggs Drive, Plainfield, IL, 60544.
The organizations asks that donations be sent to the attention of Audrey Stein.
