A lot of tough games this week, and I’d love some help.
Katy Perry, you killed it on ESPN’s “GameDay” last week. Can you lend a hand?
Michigan State (minus 21) at Purdue: The Boilermakers feasted against Illinois’ tackling-is-optional defense. Now it’s time to fast. Take the Spartans, who should be ticked off after almost blowing that 27-3 lead to Nebraska.
Northwestern (plus 4) at Minnesota: The Gophers are coming off an open date. The Wildcats are coming off a big win. Advantage who? I’ll take the team with momentum — and a defense that produces a new hero (Ifeadi Odenigbo, Anthony Walker, Godwin Igwebuike) every week. Northwestern it is.
Illinois (plus 26.5) at Wisconsin: You almost have to admire the hopelessly optimistic Tim Beckman, who would stand in the middle of a hurricane and shout, “Ahhh … refreshing!” After the Purdue loss, he declared, “If we run the table, we end up with nine wins.” Yes, and if I can cleverly end this sentence, I’ll win the Pulitzer Prize. By the way, I’m picking Wisconsin.
Indiana (plus 3) at Iowa: This is the case of the Incredible Shrinking Line. Iowa opened as a seven-point favorite, and now it’s less than half that. Not sure if the betting public saw something it liked in that North Texas-Indiana game film, but I’ll take the Hawkeyes.
Penn State (plus 1) at Michigan: No idea on this one. Penn State’s O-line and Michigan’s entire offense are equally bad. (C’mon, Katy, help me out.) OK, give me the Nittany Lions.
Last week: 3-2-1.
Season: 24-27-2.
