A Romeoville teen suffered a cut “from one end of his neck to the other” last month when he was snagged by a cord that was stretched out above ground in a yard through which he was riding his bike, police said.

Romeoville police said they were called to the 400 block of Maggie Lane at about 5:40 p.m. on Sept. 23.

The 13-year-old boy had been riding his bike through backyards when his neck was caught by a lightweight nylon cord, which was stretched out between a fence and an electrical box, police said.

He was taken to the Edward Hospital care facility in Plainfield by his mother, and treated for the cut to his neck, and released later that evening, police said.

Police spokesman Commander John Ferdinardo said the injury resembled a long lacerataion along the teen’s neck, although the injury did not require stitches.

“It goes from one end of his neck to the other,” Ferdinardo said.

It was unclear to police why the cord, described by Ferdinardo as a parachute cord, was strung across the yard.

Romeoville police said they have handed their investigation’s findings over to the Will County state’s attorney’s office. Officials there said they are reviewing the information.
