A 34-year-old man shot in the head Sunday in the Winneconna Park neighborhood died the next day, according to information released Thursday by the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Richard Johnson, 34, was pronounced dead at 9:09 a.m. on Monday at John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital, according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office, which first released information about Johnson’s killing today.

The victim was shot about 2:40 a.m. Sunday at 77th Street and Stewart Avenue in the Winneconna Parkway neighborhood, police said.

The man was a passenger in an eastbound car when someone known to him started shooting, according to police.

The man was driven to Saint Bernard Hospital and Health Care Center with a head wound and then transferred to John H. Stroger, Jr. Hospital of Cook County.

The medical examiner’s office determined Thursday following an autopsy that Johnson, who lived in the 600 block of East 133rd Street in Chicago, died of a gunshot wound to the chest.

No one has been charged in Johnson’s slaying, according to police and court records.
