The Valley View School District 365U school board voted Monday night to join an Illinois nonprofit that works with teachers, schools and administrators to improve student performance.

The board voted unanimously to join the Springfield-based Consortium for Educational Change.

The move will cost the district $1,500 annually, according to district documents.

CEC was founded in 1987 and counts more than 80 districts among its members, according to the district.

The organization helps facilitate collaboration among school boards, administrations and unions, while also working to disseminate best educational practices, according to the district.

Rachel Kinder, assistant superintendent for educational services, said at Monday’s meeting that the organization will be helpful to Valley View as it navigates new educational standards coming online across the state.

Joining the consortium will also grant Valley View staff access to reduced rates for training, she said.

School Board President Steve Quigley called the price tag “more than fair” and said it was part of this Fiscal Year’s budget.

CEC will offer networking and mentoring services to the district while also promoting research-based teaching strategies and providing access to nationally recognized educational consultants, according to district documents.
