Deerfield High School is closed today because of an early morning power outage, according to Jennifer Waldorf, spokeswoman for Township High School District 113.
Students who arrived early today were sent home around 7:40 a.m., Waldorf said. The power was restored at about 9:15 a.m., she said, and all after-school programs and evening activities will continue as planned.
Today’s closure will count as one of the school’s “emergency” days and will not have to be made up, she said. School is in session today at Highland Park High School, which experienced no loss of power.
The high school’s power outage was caused when a tree fell on a primary line at about 6 a.m., knocking out power in the area, said Andrew Lichterman, assistant to the village manager in Deerfield. The problem has since been resolved.
The high wind storm last Friday afternoon likely “loosened” the tree that fell, Lichterman said, making it more easily felled.
